Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Steppy iPhone app and this website. Steppy is made by MT Solutions, LLC ("we", "us").

Your account

• Sign in with Apple. You sign in with your Apple ID. Apple gives us a private user identifier and, the first time only, your first name if you choose to share it. We don't ask Apple for your email address.
• Profile. Your race name, color, character, and the groups you create or join.

What the app uses

• Motion and Fitness (step count). When an alarm rings, Steppy reads your step count from your iPhone to count the steps taken after the alarm. It stops reading when you finish. Raw motion data never leaves your phone.
• Races. For each alarm walk we store the race day, when the alarm rang, which group it races (none for a Just me alarm), your step goal, your step progress during the race, your escape time, whether you finished or gave up, whether the phone was shaken instead of walked, and the points you earned.
• Alarms and settings. Alarms are scheduled with Apple's AlarmKit on your device. We store when they ring: the days each group alarm rings, so your group knows who's racing that day, and the time of your first alarm each day, so notifications wait until you're up. Sounds and other settings stay on your device.
• Group stakes. The stakes you write for a group, your vote, and each period's winner. Members of that group can see them.
• Notifications. If you turn them on, we store your device's push token and time zone so we can send group, stakes and winner notifications, and hold them until you're up: after your walk, once your alarm is done, or 10am if you have no alarm that day. Nothing is sent after 9pm. Turn them off anytime in iPhone Settings.
• Send Your Proof (camera). After you finish a group alarm walk, Steppy asks if you want to send a selfie as proof. You can skip it, and your character stands in. It uses the front camera only when you tap Send your proof, with a visible countdown. The photo is stored with the date it belongs to, and deleted automatically after 7 days. You can delete it sooner in the app.
• Reports and blocks. If you report a photo or block someone, we store who reported or blocked whom, so we can hide the photos and review reports.
• Subscription status. Purchases are handled by Apple. RevenueCat tells the app whether your Steppy Pro subscription is active. We never see your payment details.

Steppy does not use your location, contacts or microphone, and never reads your photo library. It only saves a share card to Photos when you tap Save Image. It uses the camera only for proof you choose to send.

Who can see what

• Group members see your race name, color, character, streak, best escape time, points, and your walk for that group's alarm, live while you walk. They also see whether you have an alarm set for the group that day, never its time. A Just me alarm's walk is never shown in a group.
• Everyone on Steppy can see your race name, color, streak, best time and points on the global board.
• Proof photos are visible only to the members of your groups, inside the app. They never appear on the global board. Group members can share lineup images outside the app; your face is in those images only if you turn on "Let groups share my face" in the You tab. Otherwise your character stands in. You can always share images of your own.
• Stakes are visible to the members of the group they belong to. Steppy never handles money: stakes are a promise between you.

Pick a race name you're happy for others to see. You can change it any time in the You tab.

Where it's stored

Your account, race data and proof photos are stored with Convex, our database provider, on servers in the United States. We keep account and race data for as long as you have an account. Proof photos are deleted after 7 days.

The waitlist

If you joined the waitlist on this website, we store your email address with our email provider, beehiiv, and use it to tell you about Steppy. Every email has an unsubscribe link. You can also ask us to delete your email at any time.

Sharing

We don't sell or rent personal data, and we don't use it for advertising or tracking. We share it only with service providers who help us run Steppy: Convex (database), RevenueCat (subscription status), Apple (sign in, payments and push notifications), beehiiv (waitlist email) and Vercel (this website), or when the law requires it.

Deleting your account

Open Steppy, go to You, then Delete account. This permanently deletes your profile, races, points, proof photos, reports, blocks, votes, notifications and group memberships from our servers, and revokes Steppy's Sign in with Apple access. Groups you own pass to another member. A subscription is billed by Apple, so cancel it in your Apple ID settings. You can also email us to delete your data.

Children

Steppy is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your choices and rights

• Turn off Motion and Fitness access for Steppy in iPhone Settings at any time.
• Change your race name or character, or leave groups, in the app.
• Skip sending proof, delete yours, choose whether your face can be shared, and block people, all in the app. Turn off camera access for Steppy in iPhone Settings at any time.
• Email us to access, correct or delete the data we hold about you. Depending on where you live (for example California or the EU), you have these rights by law and we'll honor them.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above, and tell you in the app for anything important.
